Foundation Specialist: Steve Surette
Hometown: Carmel, Indiana
Family: Wife, Cathy; married for over 22 years. 3 Daughters, Catie, Molly and Annie.
Fun Fact: Steve and his family live in a 38-year old home in Carmel, Indiana. It was initially built with a crawl space, but it was converted into a basement.
Hobbies: When Steve isn't hard at work for his clients, he enjoys traveling with his family in their mini motor home. He is an endurance athlete, and enjoys riding bicycles. Steve has competed in long distance events such as RAIN (Ride Across Indiana). He notes that his best ride was the "Hilly Hundred" with his daughters Catie and Molly. They rode a tandem bike with a tag along, and he jokes that he, "seldom had to pedal." Steve is also active with Bicycle Indiana, a state-wide advocacy group for bicyclists, and he currently serves on the License Plate Committee. Beginning in 2011, you will be able to purchase an "I Share the Road" bicycle license plate through the BMV. Proceeds will improve the transportation system for all user groups as it relates to bicycles.
Work Experience: Steve and his entire family have a long history in the home inspection business. In 1976, Steve's father launched Dave Surette and Associates, Inc., a home inspection company. His younger brothers, Scott and Randy, also operate successful inspection companies in the Indianapolis market.
During the past 20 years, Steve has inspected nearly 10,000 single family homes! He brings thorough understanding of foundation defects built upon his decades of experience. Steve can identify where and why your home's foundation system is defective and will recommend the best repair method to correct the problem. He helps his clients understand that foundations are an integral part of the complicated system that they call home.
Steve served two one-year terms as the President of the Indiana Chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). As a result of his efforts and the partnerships he built with MIBOR, IAR and BAGI, there is now State legislation that requires licensing for professional home inspectors.
