Air Quality in Your Home

November 28, 2011 at 8:45 AM

Colder weather continues and our furnaces are kicking on a little more consistently as we get closer and closer to the official start of winter.  Now that our homes are closed up, it's important to think about air quality in the home.  It's not just a factor during spring allergy season-- it's important all year long.

  • Change your furnace filters at least once per month during the winter.  Dirty filters cause your furnace to work harder to circulate air.  They're using more power and increasing your utility bills.
  • Consider changing to a permanent, electrostatic filter.  They trap over 90% of debris in your home while disposable filters range between 10-40%.   Permanent filters can be more expensive, so research your options carefully.
  • Did you know... excessive moisture in your home's air can help the growth of dust mites?  Dust mites require at least 50% moisture to flourish, and they're the #1 cause of indoor allergies.   If you have standing water or leaks in your basement, you may have a foundation or water damage.    Contact Acculevel for a free visual inspection and we'll assist you in making the best decisions for protecting your home... and achieving the best air quality!
