While piles are typically installed to prevent or stop vertical foundation movement, helical tie backs are used to prevent or stop lateral movement.

When a wall is built below surface level as in a basement, or as a retaining wall detached from any structure, the wall is faced with tremendous hydraulic pressure.  As soils expand due to rain, immense pressure pushes the wall, causing buckling, cracking, or bowing basement walls or a shift / bowing of retaining walls.

Acculevel utilizes the strength and stability of steel piers by installing them horizontally (though angled downward to achieve greater torque).  Steel plates are fastened to the wall at a given distance apart to reinforce and stabilize the wall.
